Sara Drescher studied art in college and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from the University of North Texas School of Visual Arts.  In the last year of her studies, Sara started combining her faith and her art.  She is interested in taking the ancient tradition of religious art (especially icons) and bringing it into the 21st century using surrealism and symbols.

After college, Sara started out as a designer for a wholesale company.  Having a full time job, in which she traveled, did not allow her time to create.  So, she quit her job in 2001 and started painting professionally.  Portraits, murals, and other commissioned work became her bread and butter.  Sara still does portraits and commissions as well as teaches art to adults.  She participates in art festivals, juried art exhibits, and has been an artist in residence twice.  Being a professional artist has given Sara the time and space to allow her work to develop and evolve.  Creating excellent art and leaving a strong artistic legacy is something Sara wants to do for her collectors and herself.

Recently, she had a solo exhibition at the CASE Gallery in Ft. Morgan, CO and a collaborative exhibit with artist Brad King at Kamiposi Gallery in Midland, TX.

Her work has been recognized in local juried art shows many times with a Best In Show award at the “Fem Fantastico” show at the University of Texas Permian Basin in 2010 and at the OAA Spring Juried Art Exhibit in 2014. Sara was the Distinguished Artist at the “Celebration of the Arts” 2012 in Midland, the “Library Artist” in residence in 2014, and she was the artist in residence at the Museum of the Southwest Children’s Museum in 2006.  She has chaired several juried exhibits for the Midland Arts Association.  Sara also teaches watercolor to adults and teens.

Currently, she lives in Midland, Texas with her Doberman, Coco.  When she is not in her studio painting, she loves searching antique malls and flea market for fun, vintage designs and 1980s toys.
