Four Elements Series

This series explores the Four Elements.  I have presented them with symbols and images from the Bible.

This series was completed in 2004 and is influenced by the Art Nouveau style.  All of the originals are in a private collection.

This series is available as a series print, in note cards, and in limited edition prints.

"Water"

watercolor 16x20 2004

The water is a symbol of the Holy Spirit and of cleansing. The dove also symbolizes the Holy Spirit. Water was parted by Moses at the Red Sea. Fish is a symbol of Christ.

"Earth"

watercolor 16x20 2004

The potter’s clay connects the earth and God’s creativity (Isaiah 64:8).The seeds are from Christ’s “Parable of the Sower.” One seed finds good soil, another finds thorns, the third lands on the path, and the last lands in rocky soil. (Matthew 13:3-9)

"Air"

watercolor 16x20 2004

Wind is a symbol of the Holy Spirit as well as the dove. The wind is quieted on the Sea of Galilee. Christ ascended in to heaven through the air.

"Fire"

watercolor 16x20 2004

The tongues of fire on the heads of the disciples at Pentecost and the cloud of fire that guided the Israelites all show God’s presence through fire. The lamp’s fire symbolizes wisdom. God spoke to Moses through the burning bush.
