This is part of a series of paintings dealing with our minds and seeking to have the Mind of Christ instead of the world’s.
In this piece, the woman’s mind is inhabited by a black bird. The black bird is a symbol of sin. It is also noisy and represents the constant barrage of information, discouragement, lies we hear every day. There is hope on this gloomy, stormy day, however, the gate is standing wide open and on the hill in the distance are three trees along with a great house, just waiting. The three trees represent Golgotha and Christ’s sacrifice for us and the house is a reference to heaven as well as a better life with Christ.
