Seven Deadly Sins Series

These  paintings are inspired by the Art Deco posters from the turn of the century.  My favorite posters are always the cigarette and liquor ads, so I thought the style would be perfect for this series.  They are a  "tongue-in-cheek" look at our shortcomings.

I completed this series in 2003; it’s influenced by Art Deco advertising posters.

This series is available as a series print, in note cards, and in a limited edition print.

"Vanity" 36x48 acrylic (available)

Translation: “Pride is not a virtue.” Although this woman is very beautiful on the outside, her vanity and the ugliness on the inside is starting to show as well.

"Envy" 36x48 acrylic -private collection

Translation: “Envy is not a virtue” This red-haired beauty has the green eyes of jealousy. She appears to have dropped her rose for something else she has seen and wants. The yellow rose means jealousy in Victorian flower language.

"Gluttony" 36x48 acrylic-private collection

Translation: “Eating too much is not a virtue.”Just a friendly reminder from a jolly fellow.

"Greed" 36x48 acrylic -private collection

Translation: “Greed is not a virtue” Although this woman is practically swimming in gold and jewels, she is wearing shackles and a ball and chain made of her riches.

"Sloth" 36x48 acrylic -private collection

Translation: “Sleeping too much is not a virtue.” The sloth is such a slow animal that is grows algae and moss on its fur.

"Wrath" 36x48 acrylic -available

Translation: “Wrath is not a virtue.” This driver’s rage has combusted him into flames.

"Lust" 36x48 acrylic -available

Translation: “Lust is not a virtue” In this man’s glasses are two versions of the same woman, how she appears and how he sees her in his mind.
