Landscape as Still Life

In my hyper-realistic watercolor paintings, I paint groupings of ordinary objects to reference elements found in a geographical space in the environment. At first glance these groupings may seem like ordinary still life arrangements, however each piece is curated to represent the experience/ memory of a being present in a place.

When I have an idea of a place that I'd like to re-present, I sort through my collected objects and create a composition. I work from photographs of the arrangements which capture a moment in time surrounding the objects. By capturing the moment and re-presenting these objects as place, I present the experience/memory of a space in the environment through the lens of a still life painting rather than using traditional landscape genre.
